Hon. Eveline Kikafunda Calls for Unity and Development at Kakore Parish Gathering in Kampala
Hon Eveline Kikafunda, the Woman Member of Parliament Elect for Rubanda District, has urged Christians to remain united, focused, and committed to transforming their communities, both in Kampala and back home.
She made the remarks during a prayer gathering of Kakore Parishioners held at St. Dominic Kakore Kampala Muruka,at MUBs chapel Nakawa, where she joined believers in thanksgiving and baptism of two infants.
Hon. Kikafunda shared a deeply personal testimony, revealing that her journey to Parliament has been rooted in faith, persistence, and community support. She noted that her spiritual foundation has guided her path, including a significant pilgrimage to the United States with the Knights of St. Matthias Mulumba.
“I have always prayed through the Church for success, favour, and recognition of my work,” she said. “Since 2019, I have never given up. On January 15, 2026, God made it possible for me to become Woman MP Elect for Rubanda.”
She expressed heartfelt gratitude to Kakore Christians in Kampala for their role in her success, emphasizing the power of unity using a Bakiga proverb: “Engaro ibiri nizo kunabisana” — meaning, two hands wash each other.
During her time in church, Hon. Kikafunda said she reflected on three key prayers for her new leadership journey:
to be protected in her role, to be granted wisdom and knowledge for informed decision-making, and to be empowered to deliver meaningful services to the people.
She acknowledged that leadership is not easy, referencing her training at Kyankwanzi, where she prepared for the responsibilities ahead. However, she reaffirmed her commitment to serve diligently and responsibly.
Hon. Kikafunda also shared her inspiring personal story of resilience and grassroots development. After completing her degree, she chose not to seek formal employment but instead returned to her home in Mpungu. There, she ventured into agriculture and later identified a pressing challenge—high school dropout rates among girls.
In response, she established a low-cost school, charging a minimal fee of 10,000 shillings, giving vulnerable children access to education. She credited the Church, particularly former parish priest Fr. Kahiigi, for supporting the initiative by providing land.
“I became an inspiration to many young people in my community,” she said. “The Church has played a big role in shaping my journey.”
Addressing the congregation, she urged Kakore parishioners in Kampala to extend their support to rural communities, noting that poverty levels remain high and access to basic medical care is still limited.
She commended the leadership of Fr Deus Maniragaba for guiding the parish and highlighted visible progress in education at St. Agatha Kakore, where computers have been installed through support from the International Community of BanyaKigezi.
Hon. Kikafunda also praised economic empowerment efforts through SACCO groups, encouraging parishioners to continue strengthening such initiatives.
In a forward-looking message, she challenged Kakore Christians in Kampala to think beyond prayer meetings and develop a clear strategic plan that drives tangible impact back home.
“We should not meet only for prayers. We must also plan for development and sustainability,” she emphasized. “Let us use our land and work with catechists to start projects that can transform our communities.”
She stressed the importance of grassroots development, urging people to focus on village-level interventions and prioritize infrastructure development as a foundation for growth.
As she concluded her address, Hon. Kikafunda pledged to work closely with the Church and the community to advance development in Rubanda District.
“As your new leader, I promise to work with you and the parish to ensure progress and positive change for our people,” she said.
Her message left the congregation inspired, with a renewed call for unity, service, and commitment to building a better future for Kakore and beyond.
