Kigezi Kampala Residents Raise over UGX 121 Million to build a new home- Bishop Rubaramira Launches Construction of the  New Sonde Home.

Sonde–Namugongo, February 15, 2026
The Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA) has raised over  UGX 121 million today during the climax of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) 2025, marking a major milestone toward the construction of its permanent home in Sonde, Namugongo.

In 2025 the Bishop of Kabale Diocese,  decentralized the  Bishop's Annual Appeal Fund Project according each parish in the Diocese an opportunity to identify and earmark a project for its development.

The fundraising event, held during the Bishop’s pastoral visit to the KKCRA community attracted members from across the 43 parishes  of Kabale Diocese residing in Kampala and other surrounding areas. The funds will kick-start construction works on the 4 acre land  that is set to host a multipurpose hall, recreation gardens, conference facilities, a hotel, and a place of worship.
The proposed Sonde home will also accommodate key KKCRA initiatives, including the SACCO, the Bereavement Fund, and other community development programs.
In his homily, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt Rev.Callist Rubaramira, urged Christians to remain united and fully embrace the Sonde project as their collective home. Reflecting on the liturgical readings of the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, he called on believers to deepen their trust in God and build their lives on strong foundations of faith and responsibility.
The Bishop laid the foundation  and planted trees at the site, symbolizing growth and long-term sustainability. He encouraged Christians to adopt income-generating projects and reduce overdependence on subsistence crops such as sorghum. Instead, he advised families to embrace coffee growing and other cash crops to improve household incomes.
He further reminded the faithful of their obligation to support development initiatives both in their home parishes and within their families, emphasizing that economic empowerment strengthens the Church’s mission.

KKCRA Chairman Mr. Narcis Tumushabe Rwangoga welcomed the Bishop and thanked members for their resilience and commitment to build their community.
He highlighted the association development strategy that operates under six strategic pillars: spiritual growth, leadership development, economic empowerment, education, social welfare,Health and  environmental care.

He reaffirmed the KKCRA leadership commitment to  prioritize the Sonde construction this year. He  affirmed that all  Third Sunday Masses will be animated by deaneries in  rotation beginning March 2026 to continue supporting the Sonde Development Project

Welcoming the Bishop and faithful, KKCRA Caretaker priest  Rev. Fr. Dr. Godfrey Cyiza underscored the spiritual and canonical responsibility of Christians to support the Church.
Citing Church law (Canons 222, 1254, 1259, and 1287), he explained that the faithful have both the right and duty to contribute toward the Church’s material needs. He noted that while the Church has an inherent right to acquire property for its mission, its administrators are equally bound to accountability and transparency.
Quoting 2 Corinthians 9:6–9, Fr. Dr.Cyiza encouraged cheerful giving and called on the faithful to enter the upcoming Lenten season with renewed commitment to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

The development of the Sonde property is being overseen by KKRA Investments (U) Limited, an investment company of  KKCRA  incorporated in June 2012.
The KKCRA home will be established on four acres under Plot 1227, Block 102 in Kyaggwe, Mukono District. Additional plots around the land were also  acquired to secure access to the main property, with title transfers currently in advanced stages.
The company also owns land in Kyebando, near Akamwesi Shopping Mall, approximately eight kilometers from Kampala city center, which is earmarked for future commercial development to bring more income.
Construction at Sonde will be undertaken in phases, with a strategic goal of establishing a permanent spiritual and socio-economic hub for KKCRA, while ensuring sustainable revenue streams.

The Project will require UGX 1.3 billion to complete. Leaders have expressed optimism that sustained mobilization across parishes and other wellwishers  will bring the project to completion.

The Event was attended by various dignitaries among whom Included  Justice Bernard Namanya Judge of the Highcourt of Uganda,Justice Dr.Joseph Murangira, retired judge of the High court of Uganda, Mr.Hillary Bisanga, Deputy Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons Service, Mrs Bridget Asinga, NRM Chairperson for Kabale District Among others.
