KKCRA Youth Lead Inspiring Holy Thursday Outreach to Missionaries of the Poor in Kisenyi

KKCRA Marks Holy Thursday with Compassionate Lenten Outreach to Missionaries of the Poor
Kampala, Uganda – Holy Thursday

In a powerful expression of faith in action, the Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA), through its Youth Apostolate, today carried out a significant Lenten almsgiving outreach to the Missionaries of the Poor in Kisenyi, Kampala.
The outreach, held on Holy Thursday, a day that commemorates Christ’s call to service and humility saw KKCRA members deliver essential supplies valued at approximately UGX 2 million. These included food items, toiletries, clothing, and other household necessities aimed at supporting vulnerable children under the care of the Missionaries of the Poor.

The Kisenyi-based mission, established in 2002 as the Good Shepherd Home, has long been a sanctuary for marginalized groups, particularly children affected by poverty, disability, and the HIV/AIDS crisis that deeply impacted Uganda in the late 20th century. Operated by the Missionaries of the Poor, an international Catholic religious order founded in 1981, the center continues to provide shelter, healthcare, education, and spiritual support to those most in need.

Beyond the donation of material goods, KKCRA members actively engaged in the daily life of the center—participating in cleaning, washing, and even splitting firewood alongside residents and staff. This hands-on involvement reflected the deeper meaning of Lenten almsgiving: not only giving resources, but also sharing time, presence, and compassion.
Speaking after the outreach, KKCRA General Secretary Mr Davis Bariiho Bagamuhunda  expressed  gratitude to the Youth Apostolate for their dedication and coordination of the initiative, as well as to all members who contributed generously. The association emphasized that such acts embody their identity as a Christ-centered community committed to service.
“This Holy Thursday outreach is a reminder that true discipleship is lived through love and sacrifice for others, especially the most vulnerable,” the statement noted.

As Christians around the world enter the Easter Triduum, KKCRA extends heartfelt Easter blessings to all its members and the wider community, encouraging continued generosity and solidarity.

This hands-on involvement created a meaningful connection between KKCRA members and the residents, especially the vulnerable children cared for at the facility. It reflected the deeper call of Holy Thursday—to serve others selflessly, just as Christ served His disciples.
The experience was not only impactful for the beneficiaries but also transformative for the participants, reinforcing the values of compassion, solidarity, and joyful service.
