KAMPALA FUNDRAISER FOR SACRED HEART RUSHOROZA KIHIHI PARISH RAISES OVER UGX 34 MILLION

Businessman Fred Kamunyu Pledges Major Support as Parish Marks Three Years of Growth and Mission
Kampala, Uganda — The Catholic community in Kampala on Sunday 30th November 2025 witnessed a remarkable show of solidarity as the fundraising drive for Sacred Heart Rushoroza Kihiihi Parish collected over UGX 34 million, a major boost toward the completion of the new Priest’s House.
The event was organized by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Innocent Young Buregyeya, and attended by Christians, well-wishers, and members of the Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA).

The fundraiser coincided with the First Sunday of Advent, marking the beginning of a new liturgical year, a season traditionally centered on hope, preparation, and joyful expectation of the Lord’s coming.

Representing the Bishop, the KKCRA Caretaker delivered the homily, calling on Christians:

> “to embrace the spirit of Advent fully, to walk in the light of the Lord, and to use this season to renew our faith, our charity, and our commitment to God’s work.”

The reflection drew inspiration from the day’s liturgical readings:

Isaiah 2:1–5, a prophecy envisioning all nations streaming to the mountain of the Lord in peace and unity.

Psalm 122, a joyful reminder of the blessings of going to the Lord’s house and the responsibility to pray for peace within our communities.

Romans 13:11–14, in which St. Paul urges believers to “wake from sleep,” cast off works of darkness, and put on the armor of light.

Matthew 24:37–44, where Jesus calls His followers to remain watchful, prepared, and steadfast in righteousness.

The caretaker emphasized that Advent’s message aligns perfectly with the mission of young parishes like Sacred Heart Rushoroza Kihiihi—to build, strengthen, and become shining centers of faith for generations to come.

The event’s Chief Guest, prominent businessman Mr. Fred Kamunyu, delivered one of the day’s biggest highlights.

Moved by the vision and leadership of Fr. Innocent Young, whom he described as “ a true shepherd of God’s people,” Mr. Kamunyu made two key commitments:
He pledged UGX 5 million towards the construction project. In addition, he committed to funding all the  frames required to finish the interior housing of the Priest’s House, significantly reducing the technical and financial burden on the parish.

He assured Christians that this was only the beginning of his support, promising continued partnership with the parish and with Fr. Innocent:

> “Where there is faith, unity, and leadership, development follows. Sacred Heart Rushoroza Kihiihi is close to my heart, and I will stand with it.”
The fundraiser also drew strong participation from the KKCRA leadership.
The KKCRA Chairman, in a gesture of solidarity, contributed UGX 1 million, appreciating the role the parish plays in strengthening the Catholic identity of Kigezi families within and beyond Kampala.

His message emphasized:
The importance of supporting young, fast-growing parishes.
The unity of Kigezi Catholics regardless of geographical distance.
The responsibility of communities to empower pastoral work and clergy welfare.

Other Christians and well-wishers made various contributions, all adding to the impressive UGX 34 million raised.

Sacred Heart Rushoroza Kihiihi Parish established three years ago—continues to grow quickly in population, infrastructure, and spiritual activity.

The parish will celebrate its 3rd anniversary on 7th December, a day that will also serve as the BAAF (Bishop's Annual Appeal Fund) Climax, where more funds will be collected to finalize the Priest’s House.

This house is expected to:
Provide a stable residence for present and future parish priests.

Strengthen pastoral care and community presence.

Enhance the dignity and service capacity of the clergy.

Fr. Innocent Young expressed deep gratitude to all contributors, saying:

> “This overwhelming support is a sign that God works through His people. I pledge to continue praying for all Christians, friends, and partners who sacrifice for the growth of our parish and the expansion of God’s Kingdom.”
He encouraged Christians to keep the spirit of Advent alive—through generosity, prayer, and commitment to community development.

The Kampala fundraising event has set a strong foundation, and with continued collaboration, Sacred Heart Rushoroza Kihiihi Parish is poised to become a vibrant spiritual home for thousands in the years to come.
