Rushoroza Cathedral Parish Hosts Magnificent Christmas Carols Festival
Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale came alive today as it hosted a vibrant Christmas Carols festival featuring nine choirs from across the parish. The colorful event, held at the Rushoroza Cathedral grounds, was graced by the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Msgr. Sunday Vianney, alongside other dignitaries and hundreds of congregants.
The Vicar General called upon everyone to thank God for the gift of good weather, which made the day even more enjoyable. He commended the choirs for their dedication and the beautiful gift of singing, emphasizing the importance of unity as a church and community. Echoing the words of Pope Francis, he urged the faithful to move forward together as one family under God’s care.
The highlight of the event was the rendition of the day’s main song, “Embaju Zoona Zensi Zareba Okujuna Kwa Ruhanga Waitu” by Msgr. Barugahare. The song, performed by all the choirs in unison, carried a deep spiritual message of drawing closer to God during this holy season. Msgr. Vianney explained the significance of the song, reminding the congregation of the anticipation of Christ’s coming.
He thanked Rev. Fr. Austine and the entire parish leadership for the meticulous organization of the event. “Christmas carols give us the opportunity to celebrate the richness of our faith and express the joy of the season,” he said.
Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, the chief guest, added grandeur to the occasion with a generous donation of UGX 2 million to support the choirs. Representing Hon. Catherine Ndamira, who provided all the tents for the event, Hon. Niwagaba also acknowledged contributions from Hon. Thaddeus Kamara (UGX 1.9 million) and Hon. Bridget Asinga (UGX 100,000).
In his speech, Hon. Niwagaba praised the choirs for their discipline, talent, and organization. Citing St. Augustine, he remarked, “He who sings well, praises twice.” He further drew inspiration from the Book of James 5:13 and Acts of the Apostles 2:46–47, urging the choirs to aim higher and seek opportunities to showcase their talent beyond borders.
Rev. Fr. Austine Christmas expressed his immense gratitude for the successful event. He lauded the choirs for their dedication, noting that their hard work brought the congregation into the true spirit of Christmas.
Fr. Austine also thanked the catechists for their efforts in nurturing the Christian community and promised an even more exciting Christmas Carols event next year. With humor, he announced plans for a special choir composed of catechists and administration priests, with Fr. Innocent Naturinda leading the group.
Mr. Byamukama Remigio, the Chairperson of the Parish Council, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the choirs for their sacrifices, particularly those who traveled long distances to participate. He commended the choir from Katenga for their resilience and recognized the senior choir conductor from Muyumbu Centre, who once represented Uganda in Germany.
“Young conductors must draw inspiration from her and aim to elevate their talents to such heights,” he urged. “The choirs are the face of the church, and the beauty of our liturgy depends on your dedication.”
The day concluded on a high note, with choirs and congregants alike basking in the joy of the festive season. The event showcased the vibrant musical culture of Rushoroza Parish and left everyone looking forward to an even bigger celebration next year.
The Christmas Carols festival was a testament to the unity, talent, and deep faith of the Rushoroza Parish community. It was a day to remember, filled with music, laughter, and the true spirit of Christmas.
