Miss Tourism Kigezi Initiative Hosts Handicap Day to Uplift Disabled Communities
Kabale, 28th December 2024 – The Miss Tourism Kigezi Initiative organized a remarkable Handicap Day aimed at uplifting the capabilities of disabled people in the Kigezi region. The event, held in Kabale town, brought together various stakeholders in a spirit of unity, care, and giving back to the community.

The day began with a cleanup exercise across Kabale town. Volunteers, including local leaders, organizations, and well-wishers, joined hands to ensure the town was spotless. The cleaning effort symbolized the need for a cleaner environment and inclusivity in community activities.
As part of the day’s activities, the initiative distributed essential items to the disabled, including clothes, sanitary wear, food, and drinks. These items were carefully selected to address the immediate needs of the recipients and promote their well-being.
A highlight of the event was a shared lunch with the disabled community. This act of togetherness fostered a sense of belonging and emphasized the importance of breaking barriers that often isolate people with disabilities.

Faith, the Kigezi Initiative Cluster Head Coordinator, addressed the gathering and highlighted the motivation behind the event. She explained that Handicap Day was organized to shine a light on the abilities and potential of disabled individuals, urging the community to support and embrace inclusivity.

Sam Evidence Orikunda, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Sheema District, urged the disabled community to actively embrace government programs. He emphasized that these programs are designed to empower all citizens, including those living with disabilities, and help them achieve their dreams.

The day was filled with joy, laughter, and gratitude as participants celebrated the spirit of giving back. The event underscored the commitment of the Miss Tourism Kigezi Initiative to champion social causes and uplift marginalized groups in society.

Every individual, regardless of their abilities, has a vital role to play in the development of their community. As the curtains closed on Handicap Day, the message of hope, inclusivity, and support for the disabled resonated strongly across the Kigezi region.
