Dr. Peter Ngategize Reflects on the Remarkable Life of Rev. Fr. Silvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe: A Shepherd Who Served with Faith and Distinction
Celebrating the Life of the Late Fr Silvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe.
The passing on of Fr Silvester Arinaitwe on the afternoon of Saturday 18th April 2026 was untimely and schocking!
Many of us who knew him were not aware that he has any ailment!
I was last in touch with him on his birthday that fell on 2nd March 2026! I informed him that I could not join him in Jinja as I had promised to which he responded; “Being lent season I have kept a low profile, no celebration, so it is ok”!
Fr Silvester, as an Apostle of Jesus served in different leadership roles both in Uganda and outside Uganda!
Our parents knew each other early in our lives mainly as members of the Legion of Mary, hailing from the present day Kyanamira Parish, Rushoroza Deanery!
We got to know each other more closely when I served as part of the leadership of Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA)! He was a regular and active member of the community, a friend of many and available to our families in terms of offering spiritual and morale support! Occassionaly he was available as a Caretaker of our community!
His intellect, leadership skills and community skills were best visible when he served as General Secretary of the National Joint Christian Council!
Many of us continued to be connected with Fr Silvester when he was transfered to serve as Director of the Gethsemane Spiritual and Retreat Centre in Jinja! We continued to be friends and I occasional visited him in Jinja including sometime last year!
Fr Silvester was a deeply religious person, blessed with leadership skills and his services made an impact wherever he served!
On behalf of the many that knew him as members of the KKCRA Community and other mutual friends, I convey our sincere condolences especially to the leadership and members of the congregation of the Apostles of Jesus and his family and friends!
He lived and truly served as a religious to the very end!
May the good Lord grant him eternal peace!
