Archbishop Emmanuel Obbo Calls for Faith as Church Mourns Rev. Fr. Sylvester Arinaitwe..
Requiem Mass Held for Rev. Fr. Sylvester Arinaitwe as Church Reflects on Life and Death.
A requiem Mass for Rev. Fr. Sylvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe of the Apostles of Jesus has been held at Rubaga Cathedral Jinja Diocese .The Mass was led by Archbishop Emmanuel Obbo AJ.
In his message, Archbishop Obbo spoke about the three important stages of life: birth, life, and death. He said that although death brings pain and shock, it is part of human life.
He said this is not the first time the Church is mourning a priest from the Apostles of Jesus. He mentioned the late Fr. Paul Onyango Gagawals, whose death was also sudden and difficult to understand.
Speaking about Fr. Sylvester, the Archbishop said his death remains a mystery. He explained that the priest had a meal, went to rest, and was expected to travel later that afternoon, but he never returned.
“Indeed, he went and did not come back. This is a mystery,” he said.
The Archbishop also shared his past experience while working in Moroto, where priests lived under constant attacks. He said during that time, they often wondered who would be next to die.
“Death can come at any time, but God knows what He is doing,” he said.
He added that the pain and shock are real, especially because Fr. Sylvester showed no signs of illness. He said he had recently seen him happy and normal.
Archbishop Obbo encouraged Christians to remain strong in faith. He said people should not only think of the deceased as gone, but believe that life continues in God.
He also referred to the death of Princess Diana, saying that people remember those who have died through what they left behind. He urged the faithful to continue the good work Fr. Sylvester started and to keep praying.
The body of Fr. Sylvester is expected to arrive in Kampala this afternoon.
The Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA) will hold a requiem Mass today at 6:00 PM at Nsambya Cathedral Parish.
The Mass will be led by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere.
